If you’re in need of a healthy platform for your favorite hummus or my Island-Style guacamole, here’s an ultra simple solution. You’ll not only avoid buying a whole box or bag of some ‘flour-y’ pita chips, you’ll bump up your whole grain, fiber and protein intake as well. Commercial crackers or pita chips made with high quality ingredients, no added oil or sugar, and acceptable sodium levels are hard to find.

I actually made these by accident. 🙂 I put a tortilla in the toaster oven just to warm it up, but forgot about it. When I returned, I had one big crispy “cracker”!

What’s In It..

1 package Food for Life® Ezekiel 4:9 New Mexico style sprouted grain tortillas, large

Ingredients of Ezekial® Tortillas (no added oil or sugar): Organic sprouted wheat, filtered water, organic sesame seeds, organic sprouted soybeans, organic sprouted barley, organic sprouted millet, organic sprouted lentils, organic sprouted spelt, sea salt. Contains NO GMO’s.

Nutrition Facts of Ezekial® Tortillas: One 9-inch tortilla = 150 calories, Sodium 140 mg, Carbohydrate 24 g, Fiber 5 g, Protein 6 g, Saturated Fat 0.5 g

How It’s Made…

  1. Preheat toaster oven to 300°F.
  2. Lay 1 tortilla on a baking sheet for about 5-6 minutes, then flip over and repeat.
  3. Your “cracker” is done when the edges start to curl up AND the center is hard. At that point, they’ll be ‘crisp’ enough to break into pieces.
  4. Break the cooled tortilla into large pieces and dunk into your favorite hummus!
